John Glenn Middle School staff and the Middle School Parents Association (MSPA) are excited to present the 8th Grade Moving On ceremony and events. The JGMS staff will be planning the ceremony, while the MSPA will be planning a celebration of our 8th grade students as they move on to high school.

In the week leading up to Moving On, the LGI hallway will be dedicated to our 8th Graders, with each student having a commemorative “Then & Now” photo collage displayed.

All 8th grade students will receive a Class of 2028 t-shirt that they will wear on the class trip to Canobie Lake Park on Friday, June 14. More information on this trip will be sent home directly from the school.

The ceremony will be held on Sabourin Field in Bedford at 5:00 pm on Thursday, June 13, 2024. Parents and extended family are invited to attend. Following the ceremony there will be an 8th Grade Student-Only Celebration in the rear parking lot and fields of JGMS from 6:00 pm -7:30 pm.  The event will be chaperoned by JGMS staff and will include a cookout dinner, yard games, DJ, photo booth, bounce house, etc.

The events of Moving On will be “tropical summer” themed, and we encourage all who attend to dress in festive attire. Parents are encouraged to bring a blanket to sit on for the ceremony (on the field) - there are absolutely no chairs, high-heels, or pets allowed on the turf field. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony and party will be held inside JGMS (with limited capacity for the ceremony).

To help make Moving On a success, we need YOUR HELP! Each family is asked to donate $50 to cover expenses associated with Moving On (catering, entertainment, t-shirts, decorations, etc.).

We also have lots of opportunities for 8th grade caregivers to volunteer and help make Moving on fantastic for our children.

  • Donate Yard Games (for party after ceremony; all donated items will be returned)
  • Provide sweet treats, snacks, and beverages for the party.
  • Help with the “Then & Now” project. This is an all-hands-on-deck project that will take place in May & June.
  • Day of volunteers (to help set up the games, food tables, and accept donations from parents before the ceremony).

More information on Moving On will be sent periodically between now and June 13. Caregivers, please complete our Moving On 2024 form by Wednesday, May 10 (for RSVPs, T-shirt orders, and more Moving On info).

Then & Now photo project: parents please email two photos of your student (1 recent and 1 from earlier in their childhood), we are also collecting candid photos of 8th graders  participating in activities, sports, etc. (alone or with friends). Photos can be emailed directly to jgmsmovingon@gmail.com. Please include the following in your email: Student First and Last Name; 1 recent photo, 1 photo from the past, 2-3 candid photos.

Family monetary contributions can be made on the MSPA website or through venmo @JohnGlenn-MSPA.

Sign Ups for yard games, refreshments, day of help, etc. will be sent out closer to the date.
